Whatas more fun than a vacation at the lake with your family? Well, depending on your family, all kinds of thing. But for most moms this is the kind of thing you look forward to all year. You can look forward to fun in the sun and relaxing all day. Until your kids tell you that youare all going waterskiing later, and you have to come. You, a bathing suit, and a crowd is a scary enough combination, but now youare supposed to do all that and perform tricks at high speed?
Itas vital to buy your waterski equipment from an experienced vendor. It doesnat have to be new, but it does have to be well-cared for. Look for a rope that has been stored properly, with no kinks or rips, and a grip that fits your hand comfortably because youall be hanging onto it for dear life when you are learning how to slalom ski. Make sure your skis fit you perfectly and that they are the right size for the kind of skiing youall be doing.
The most important thing to remember before you begin learning how to slalom water ski is something moms already know by heart: safety first. Make sure that you have the best and most appropriate waterski equipment, including skis that fit you, a sturdy rope, a comfortable grip, proper water skiing attire, and a boat with an experienced captain.
What should you wear to waterski? If you look great in your bikini, chances are you like to show it off. If you donat, well, welcome to the club! One of the great things about waterskiing is that coverage is a good thing. You want something that will keep you warm, since youall be going in and out of the water. As an added bonus, this means less area to get a sunburn on, and no stretch-marks showing.
Now youare read youare ready to slalom, right? Not without lessons you donat. Youall need to learn the techniques, including the hand signals youall need to use to communicate with the boat driver. You canat rely on shouting, because once the engine starts and youare yards behind the boat, heall never hear you.
This is complicated enough without having the driver and skier learning how to do this at the same time. Even with an experienced driver you arenat going to become an amazing skier in one try. Thatas okay. Your kids will be happy that you had the courage to try.
Youare not likely to nail it the first time out, but thatas okay. Your kids will be impressed you tried, and youall want try again. Thatas the only way to get better. Keep getting out there, and while it isnat your turn, see if you canat learn from watching others. If any more experience water skiers give you advice, even if theyare kids, pay attention to them. What your pride loses, your skills will gain.
Before you know it youall have gone from Boring Shore Lady to Slalom Mom. When you go out with your family and have fun, youall have the kind of joy-filled memories you always hope for from vacations. And this is one less thing your kids will poke fun at you for!
