I’m taking my first trip to WDW soon, woo hoo! My question is what the weather is typically like in the first week of September, is it closer to August weather (hot and humid) or September weather (rainy)?

Does anyone have a good idea of the crowds too?

First week of September will be hot with good chances of afternoon thunderstorms. Be sure to bring enough clothes for an afternoon change and don’t forget your rain poncho!

Crowds may be heavier than you would expect. First, you have the labor day crowds. Many people with young kids like to go during the first couple of weeks of September. Second, Disney has a free dining promotion going during those dates. So that will bring in extra people. Also, this is a big travel time for people from England, so they will be there. I traveled last year in the early fall during the ‘slow’ season and I was shocked at the number of people in the parks! I saw lines over 90 minutes long for some of the popular rides.

If you are really concerned with the crowds, you may want to use an itinerary and touring plans service. We used Custom Mouse Plans with wonderful results. With the plans they made, we never waited in any of the long lines! In fact, we rarely waited more than 10 minutes for any ride. I highly recommend them if you want to avoid lines.

It should be pretty darn hot & humid for you. You will still have a good chance of afternoon thunderstorms.

Crowds will be busy right around Labor Day weekend, but should start shrinking to a more manageable level after that.

Labor day weekend itself will be VERY crowded (usually through Tuesday). Crowds seem to drop off quickly after that.

    Yay, your first trip!!!!

It will be warm and you’ll most likely get afternoon showers. The showers start anywhere from noon to 4:30, and can last anywhere from 10-30 minutes. I look at the showers as a good thing because they help things cool down outside. Just get yourself a poncho, and keep on having fun!!

Labor day (and the weekend before) can be quite crowded, but the crowds will start dropping off on Tuesday and be down significantly by Wednesday. Don’t worry, you’re going to have so much fun!

the weahter is still hot and rainy for the firts part of septempber.
like 85-90 degrees and rains most afternoons between 3-6pm for about 30-60 minutes.
and most kids have already gone back to school or willl be going back to school during next week.
the crowds are really light cuz usually parents don’t take their kids out of school during the first couple weeks.
its really a great time to go cuz towards the end of sept the crowds get heavier for a few weeks.

I went to Disney the first week of Sept a couple of years ago. It was still hot in the 90′s but it wasn’t very crowded. We were able to get through a water park and a regular each day easy. It doesn’t matter what time of year you go it will probably rain a couple of days. Sept is a great time to go though. Have fun!!

Weather will be HOT with afternoon thunderstorms. In disney the air is often very still and getting overheated feeling is common. bring drinking water and a personal fan for relief while waiting in outside lines. When storms blow in you will get the breeze and cool relief for a bit but after the storm it will be muggy.

The crowd level is low…lines are easy to get through. I went in Sept a couple yers ago and no wait was longer than 10 minutes.

People do avoid the month because of school and the fact that it is hurricane season. With Gustav out there…you never know what could happen if it decided to cross the state…so if we have a tropical storm or hurricane the park would close during that time.
