Did anyone else notice that at Epcot in Disneyworld, the epcot sign on the ball was removed?

I went 2 years ago and there was a mikey arm on the epcot ball holding a wand that lit up epcot. But going again last year, there was only the ball. Anyone know why they took it off?

When Disney decided to re-do the Spaceship Earth attraction they decided to remove the wand as well. It was removed late summer in 2007. As a previous poster mentioned, it was never intended to be permanent.
Here’s a photo log of the removal of the wand.

(You have to scroll about about 2/3 of the way down and then scroll back to 1/2 way to follow the progress.)
They took it off because they want the sphere to signify Epcot. They also remodeled the ride Spaceship Earth, which is inside the sphere.
I thought the Mickey arm was there only for a temporary reason, that I’m not sure of (like an anniversary or something).
I was just there two weeks ago, and I didn’t even notice that it was gone.
Oh well.
I believe that it was taken off because of the refurbishment that is underway. They are re-doing the whole attraction, so I am sure that is what is going on. I will be going in March, so if I hear anything I will report back.
The Mickey arm was put up for the Millenium celebration in 2000. Honestly, as a local we were glad to see it gone. It was a bit tacky detracting from the geospheric dome. It was never meant to stay there anyways.
I am thrilled to see the wand gone! Spaceship Eart was built as a monument to human triumph.
The wand really took away from that was installed for the Millenium Celebration and had overstayed its welcome by 6 years!
That being said, I get excited everytime I go to and drive past EPCOT now, seeing it standing there by itself all glorious!
I agree. The sign was absolutely tacky. The ball should remain signless.
yes you are right although i hadent realise till you said but i collect the pins and the old ones have the arm. think it looks better now though
