When most people think about UK vacations they mostly just think about resorts near to the sea such as Torquay, Eastbourne, Clacton-on-Sea and Bognor Regis. Occasionally people might discuss having a short break in a specific English county such as Devon in south England but rarely do they discuss having a short break in the city of Exeter. This article examines the various reasons why an Exeter vacation is a cool idea.
One of the first reasons for taking a short break in Exeter is that there is cheap accommodation available with Exeter bed and breakfast available from roughly 25 a night and lots of places around the 40-50 mark.
Of course there should be more than a minimal price to attract you to visit a city and Exeter definitely has loads to offer the possible tourist. You will discover that there are numerous top notch tourist attractions in the city center and even more within a short distance and if this is not sufficient then the city of Plymouth is only a short distance away and you will discover that there is also cheap bed and breakfast in Plymouth and even more fantastic tourist attractions. Plus you will discover masses of breathtaking sites to visit along the nearby coast.
Where To Stay In Exeter
The Drewe Arms This accommodation is superb, the rooms are cheap but the actual building is a picturesque 17th century thatched inn on the famous Two Moors Way (a walkers route). Sadly it is 15m away from Exeter’s city center. If you want more luxury there are four-poster rooms available.
The Crawford Hotel This hotel is much closer to Exeter city center, roughly 1.6 km. It is a two star establishment with good en suite accommodation and, importantly, 24 hour access to your room, superb if you are planning to have a long night out or you need access during the day. If required there is Free wireless internet access available in public areas of the hotel.
Places To Visit
In Exeter there are only a few of tourist attractions worth visiting including; St Peter’s Cathedral, the Royal Albert Museum and Rougemont Castle. As I mentioned earlier in this article there is a small selection of close by seaside villages to visit the most worthwhile being the old-fashioned villages of Sidmouth, Seaton and Beer.
Further away, in between Exeter and Plymouth is the virtually unpopulated moorland of the Dartmoor National Park with the overall region having several tourist attractions well worth a visit including A La Ronde, Buckland Abbey and Buckfast Abbey along the main route, to Plymouth. Along the way you will pass by the Torbay area, which is made up of Paignton, Brixham and Torquay and is frequently called the English Riviera region.
Exeter truly is a cool place in which to stay but why not discuss having a 2 destination vacation and spend a few of nights in a really plush Plymouth hotel and travel around the beautiful coastline in between these 2 cities?
