This summer Vacations in Great Britain are all the rage. The numerous reasons are complex but most agree that the most influencing factor is the current economic environment and the desperate requirement to reduce costs, especially in connection with vacations. A further influential fact is the low value of the Pound which traveling abroad rather expensive for the British but travel into Britain is cheap. England has large selection of first class tourist destinations including a large number of seaside resorts, however increasing numbers of visitors are deciding to book hotels in cities instead. Popular cities include; Newcastle upon Tyne, Manchester and Bristol but there are a great many other places in Great Britain in which to take a vacation such as Sheffield. With rooms available for as little as twenty pounds a night, Sheffield bed and breakfast makes for reasonablu priced city vacation destination.

Tourist Attractions In Sheffield

For a city with an industrial past primarily in the steel and cutlery industries, Sheffield is home to an excellent variety of galleries. The most widely known are the Graves Art Gallery, Site Gallery and Millennium Galleries. The Millennium Galleries are a free entry visitor attraction and feature visiting exhibitions (the entry fee for these are usually a few pounds. The Ruskin Gallery is based upon a collection donated by John Ruskin for the improvement of the working people of Sheffield and includes sketches, paintings, minerals, casts, watercolors and a library of classic nineteenth century texts.

Visitors will find that Sheffield is home to a small selection of museums however the City Museum is found on the outskirts of the center of the city as is the Kelham Island Museum which houses all manner of things associated with the industrial past of the city and old machinery. Although Sheffield was bombed heavily during WWII several fine examples of Victorian and older buildings survive and the city center is incredibly easy to navigate on foot. Try to make time to see the city’s Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul which can be dated back to the 15th century.

Staying In Sheffield

As the city has a University the clubs, bars and cafes can become surprisingly busy at the weekends, during which time students make the very most their spare time. While lots of visitors enjoy the lively night scene others would prefer a more quiet environment in which to stay, these visitors should make a reservation in a hotel away from the center of the city.

If a Sheffield weekend break is not your thing why not think about making a reservation in a bed and breakfast in London, the capital of England? Alternatively why not consider booking a weekend in a hotel in Liverpool, which was Europe’s Capital of Culture 2008 and has an incredible selection of world class visitor attractions.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain has much to offer the visitor and the numerous highly engaging, and amazingly diverse, cities often offer more than the many seaside resorts.
