The Outer Banks is a spectacular two hundred mile chain of islands off the coast of North Carolina. While the inland scenery of the state is definitely lovely, these islands have a particularly special appeal about them.
There is a feeling as if time has stood still in these islands. The fact that they are located right next to the bustling coast of the world’s most powerful country is all but forgotten when you visit these islands. You will feel as if you have somehow wandered through time to find a place that is definitely more restful than what we are used to these days.
The Outer Banks offer a great destination for any holiday makers, whether you are looking to take the family on vacation or get away with a special someone. The islands offer a host of choices when it comes to deciding what to do with your time.
The islands are well known for the light houses that adorn their coast lines. There are five main ones to visit and some tour guides specialize in taking visitors to all of these sites. They are able to give one the history of the light house and also explain the manner in which it is used today. The fact that these are still being used actively today, in spite of technological advances, is testimony to the feeling that one is stuck in a time gone past.
Those with more of an active lifestyle will be thrilled to find that there is a host of activities to choose from. Outdoor activities include angling, which is another key feature of the islands. You could also choose to charter a boat for a fishing trip around the islands. Sports such as surfing, sailing and others are all on offer.
The variety continues with the fact that visitors can also enjoy a rich arts experience. Summer concerts are put on every week with philharmonic orchestras and popular bands there to entertain. In addition to this, art lovers will be thrilled to hear that there are several galleries that one is able to visit. For those who view cooking as an art form, you can improve your skills with a cooking class that are on offer.
Visitors will be spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding on what to do with one’s holidays. The above mentioned are only but a few of those available. The Outer Banks will provide the ideal destination for a summer holiday and the fact that one is relatively close to home means that the expense will be a lot less as well.
