During these difficult time, often called the credit crunch, large numbers of folk are having to seriously looking at the way they run their affairs and trying to save pennies. One way some are saving is to have a British vacation the reason being that the has reduced in value leading to the fact that foriegn vacations for those living in England are more costly than in previous years and far less expensive for those visitors coming from Europe and the U.S.A.. In the following article I introduce you to the seaside town of Southport, England.

Southport is a town situated on the North West coast of England. Tourist attractions include, Southport Pier, Lord Street, Wayfarers’ Arcade, the Botanic Gardens at Churchtown, Botanic Gardens Museum, Churchtown village itself and more. Lord Street is the main shopping street in Southport. All the way down one side of the street the paving stones are covered by ornate Victorian iron work together with a line of lush green trees closer to the road. On the facing side of Lord Street you will find hugely colourful flower gardens and small gardens, pools and fountains and a superb Victorian bandstand. At the centre of Lord Street is more than likely the most bold war monuments in the U.K. with a centrally placed obelisk and two other monuments on each side which have large columns. Lord Street has some of Southport’s finest architecture and it is where you will find the superb Wayfarers’ Arcade.

At the end of Lord Street you will find Hesketh Park. Hesketh Park is named after the Hesketh family the park is heavily wooded, just like Lord Street. There are beautiful hidden areas to be discovered, a play park, glass house, bandstand and more to be found within Hesketh Park but most prominent is the lovely lake.

You will find another wonderful park, the Botanic Gardens in Chruchtown which features a a river come lake which has boats for hire, a beautiful footbridge, swans, ducks and other wildlife plus if you enjoy animals and birds the Botanic Gardens also has a very small zoo, just in front of the cafe and museum. Churchtown village itself is a gorgeous group of old cottages, fishermen’s cottages and houses mostly white and a few feature a roof of thatch. It is important that you explore on foot and that you keep your eyes peeled as there are one or two hidden areas well worth the trouble to discover.

Finding bed and breakfast in Southport is relatively painless with a varied number of Southport guest houses and hotels taking reservations online. There are hotels and guest houses for all budgets and tastes from cheap and cheerful to luxurious in the town centre and outside.
