My Monteverde Costa Rica Tree House Adventure

One foot off the plane and I knew I was in love with Costa Rica. This was the place ? the beginning and sometime the ending ? to my travels in Central America. First things first, get myself out of the airport.
I decided on a starting point, Costa Rica and after that, I left my plans open. There were those obvious things any traveler seeks: adventure, a new language and to see what each country offers. Here in Costa Rica, it is the bio-diversity. After San Jose, I jumped a bus to Santa Teresa on the Nicoya Peninsula.
If you’ve never surfed and are over the age of five, prepare yourself to be ripped, pulled, flipped, battered, sucked, smacked and flattened by the waves in Santa Teresa. It is something to try. A great life challenge you might call it. Some may rather choose running a marathon.
After my fourth book on the beach, it was time to move on. If I plan on covering Central America in one year I should keep moving. My new friends suggested Monteverde and Santa Elena be my next destination for a variety of reasons. A 4 a.m. alarm, an early bus, ferry and one more bus landed me in the mountains again.
The bio-diversity of Monteverde will leave you speechless. It is beautiful. The animals, butterflies and reptiles are every color imaginable and everything else, well the rest is green. Make it point to walk in the cloud forest for a day or two and you will agree.
The views, the bio-diversity and pretty much everything about this region in Costa Rica is incredible. Bright colors radiate from the toucans, hummingbirds, butterflies and even the insects. And everything else is green. If you don?t believe me, try hiking in one of the cloud forest reserves for a day.
My family and friends were generous enough to share their Costa Rican contacts with me before I took off. My feeling was that having a connection to someone in the country could not hurt. Luckily, there was one contact in Monteverde. All I had to do was use my simple Spanish to find directions.
Shortly after my day-dreams ended, I came to reality and knocked on the door of Hidden Canopy Tree house Boutique Hotel. This quaint and perfect hotel is tucked away on the side of a mountain, facing the Gulf of Nicoya. I sat breathless on the patio for many moments until I could continue on with the rest of the tour. There?s more, really? Is this heaven?
I spent hours curiously checking out all four tree houses. It took but two seconds to know this was the place to spend any vacation in Costa Rica. Luxury, privacy, flora and fauna right outside the window, how is this possible? Each tree house was individually designed; I fell in love with Eden for its Jacuzzi and the walk through waterfall shower. A waterfall shower, how had my day-dreams missed this? And now, afternoon tea on the patio, it keeps getting better!
