Don’t Miss “People On The Plinth” In London This Summer And Autumn

Until October 14th this year, the Fourth Plinth in London’s Trafalgar Square (traditionally reserved for Kings and Generals) is transformed into a space for living art, with the artist Antony Gormley’s amazing One and Other project.
The artist has invited UK residents to stand on the “plinth” for a full hour in front of the world. There is a live webcam and tv recording the action.
Thousands have applied for 2,400 spaces – chosen by luck. There is someone standing on the plinth 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!
Each person is free to do anything at all on the plinth, though it must be a legal activity. Many applicants consider it a great opportunity to show the world what they’ve got!
The way the artist himself describes the idea is presented on the London Hotels Insight blog, which also carries a link to the project’s official website with its live webcam.
The project breaks new ground and gives visitors to London an amazing spectacle. It will provide a flavour of the diverse talents of people living in the UK and provide great entertainment. Don’t miss it if you’re visiting London!
To stay as close as possible to the action, we’d like to recommend a couple of nearby hotels which come up pretty high on TripAdvisor. There’s both a luxury and a budget option below:
A highly-rated luxury hotel
If you come to London with someone you wish to impress, you would be wise to consider One Aldwych. This is a hotel with amazing contemporary design (later copied by many others) but which also thrives on friendly and down-to-earth service.
As soon as you step into the hotel’s beautiful lobby, you’ll receive a warm welcome from the staff.
When I personally interviewed the hotel’s founder, Mr Campbell Gray, he told me that he wanted every guest to have a stay which was “as exquisite as possible”.
There is more on One Aldwych at the London Hotels Insight blog, where you can also get the best rate from more than 30 different travel websites with a single click.
A value for money hotel
If you have a limited budget but do not want to compromise on location, then we recommend the Travelodge in Covent Garden: less than 10 minutes walk from Trafalgar Square and right in the centre of London’s wonderful “Theatreland”.
You’ll feel smug about getting a functional, clean room in an amazing location for much less than other tourists with accommodation in the same area!
According to guest reviews on TripAdvisor, people love the location and value offered by Travelodge Covent Garden.
The location of either of the above hotels is handy for checking out the Tate Modern gallery or to take a ride on the London Eye.
Another plus point is that you can enjoy all the fun markets and street life of Covent Garden, right outside your door!
So if you are visiting London this summer or autumn, please don’t miss the folks on the plinth!
