Shark Diving In Hawaii

January 8, 2010 by Morten Elm · Leave a Comment

Hawaii has some of the best shark diving in the world. So if you are on vacation in Hawaii, you can try to swim with sharks there. An experience you will never forget.

Hawaii consists of 132 islands; including Oahu and Maui, which has the best locations for a shark dive. Hawaii is located 2400 miles from the mainland, and the distance creates a very special underwater environment.

You can see a lot of different shark species on shark dives in Hawaii. Actually there are about 40 species of sharks in the Hawaiian water. The most frequently encountered are the Sandbar Sharks, Reef Whitetip Sharks, Scalloped Hammerhead Shark and occasionally Tiger Sharks. But even Whale Sharks can be seen near Hawaii.

The amazing cobalt blue water has a visibility approximately 200 feet, which makes it some of the best in the whole world. Diving in Hawaii is very special.

If you want to do an extreme activity, Hawaii is a great place for shark cage diving (or shark cage swimming as actually is).

You can do a shark cage dive (or swim) near Oahu. The floating cage is placed in the water and you and up to three other persons can now swim inside the cage and encounter sharks at a very close range.

So if you are on holiday and you have never tried a shark cage dive, Oahu is a great location for this thrilling experience.

Maui is another great diving destination. Actually it is considered one of the best diving spots on the world. Here you can do reef diving or dive close to volcanic craters.

But the most exciting shark encounter is without doubt with the amazing and huge Whale Shark. It is not something you can expect to see on every dive. But you can actually be lucky enough to see them on a snorkeling trip.

If you do not want to take the risk not to see any sharks, you can instead take a dive in the 750,000 gallon fish tanks in the Maui Ocean Center aquarium. Here you can see 20 sharks, a lot of stingrays and thousands of colorful, tropical reef fish.

So if you are going to Oahu or Maui you can dive with sharks; either in the ocean or in an aquarium.

Shark Diving In Australia

December 20, 2009 by Morten Elm · Leave a Comment

Australia is probably not the first place that comes into mind if you think about swimming with sharks. But actually Australia is a great place to swim and dive with sharks.

In Australia you can do everything from one-day aquarium shark dives to several-day live-aboard scuba shark dives. Cage diving is also possible.

Does scuba diving among wobbygong sharks and grey nurse sharks sounds interesting? Then the South West Rocks is the place to go. The area is rarely affected by current and you can dive close to sheer walls that plunge to an average depth of 30 meters. No wonder why the dive site is voted among the ten best in Australia.

But if you want even more excitement you can try the largest thrill of them all: great white shark diving. And instead of going to the more well-known place South Africa, you can do this special type of scuba diving in Australia.

If you want to try great white shark cage diving in Australia, one option is to go on a shark scuba diving expedition from Sydney. But the main departure point for great white shark cage dives is Port Lincoln and Adelaide in South Australia.

Both Adelaide and Port Lincoln is great places to start a live-aboard great white shark cage dive expedition. From here you sail to Neptune Islands in the Southern Ocean. Even though the main attraction is the great white sharks, you can also see a lot of other interesting animals like a huge amount of birds, fur seals, dolphins and even the rare and beautiful Australian sea lion.

So if always have wanted to try a great white shark cage dive; and you are on vacation, Australia is a great place to try it for the first time.

If you like to do a more easy and convenient shark dive, instead you can do an aquarium shark dive. In Australia there are several places like Melbourne and the Sunshine Coast, where you can swim with sharks in aquariums.

Normally you are offered an introduction to diving (if you are not a certified diver). Certified scuba diver can normally skip the pool practice. After the practice and introduction to the sharks, you are brought down in the big tanks. Often it is also possible to feed the sharks. And your family can watch you from the outside.

So an aquarium shark dive is a great way to have a close encounter with this amazing species without it haves to be a great white shark.

If you are going to Australia, you can have a great shark dive; no matter if you choose the ultimate great white shark dive or a more normal aquarium shark dive.

How To Find Cheap Airline Tickets

November 21, 2009 by Morten Elm · Leave a Comment

So you want a cheap airline ticket. Not a problem. You just have to focus on two issues: planning and flexibility. This combination can save you a lot of money.

You can save a lot of money by being flexible. Instead of going to a place in the high season, you can often wait a few months for the low season and get tickets for a much lower price. This way you can also save money on food, accommodation, sightseeing etc.

In is also not unimportant which day of the week you travel. If you are going to a typical business destination (like Brussels), where all business people goes to on the weekdays, it is cheaper to travel in the weekend. And if you are visiting a holiday destination, you can save a lot of money by traveling there on a weekday.

There are places that are expensive to fly to; whatever day or month you choose. If you are planning to go to one of those places, you can ask yourself, if you can find a cheaper location with the same of attractions instead.

Finding cheap last minute offers are possible, but in most cases you will save more money by planning well ahead. Tests have shown that you find the lowest prices combined with the highest flexibility, if you book your ticket four weeks before you need it.

When it comes to actually finding the cheap airline tickets, the Internet is your best friend. Use one the many air ticket search engines using the preferred location and dates. Then try to vary the dates a little (e.g. from a weekday to the weekend) to see if the price changes significant.

When you have found the dates (and location) with the best price, try to do the same search in another ticket search engine. You can also try to do the same on the airline’s own website. Trying different websites can give you a better price.

So remember when looking for cheap airline tickets to be flexible. Go on the best day and try to travel in the low season instead of the high season. And stay away from the most expensive locations.

And do always plan well ahead using the great ticket search engines on the Internet.

6 Great Holiday Destinations in Turkey

November 3, 2009 by Morten Elm · Leave a Comment

If you are looking for a great summer holiday, Turkey could be the place to go. The sun is shining and the beaches are great. In the evening you can eat the great Turkey food and then dive into the wild nightlife.

If you just want to relax, you can spend the whole day on the beach. If you want some action, you can try one of the water sports: jet skiing, parasailing or the banana boat. Or you can just play a game of beach volleyball.

You can also have an active holiday with trekking in the mountains. Ravine climbing and mountain climbing are also getting very popular. If you like the water more, you can try rafting or sea kayaking. Diving is also a possibility.

10 % of all tourists in Turkey stays in Alanya. And the reason is probably the great combination of beaches and sights. The most interesting sight is the castle hill 250 meter (820 feet) above the sea. From the top you can see how the hill divides the two beaches. There is also a great view of Alanya and the surrounding country.

If you bring your kids, a popular attraction is the Water Planet Aquapark. It is one of Turkeys largest water parks with everything from rafting and water slides to bungee jumping and crazy golf. Alanya does also have a lot of shops with both real and fake branded goods. The night can be spent in the many discos and bars.

Antalya is not like the other holiday destinations, which has developed from a small fisher village to a holiday destination. With its 500,000 residents you will see more locals than tourists. So a visit to Antalya will give you a better look at the real Turkey.

Because of the size of Antalya you find a lot of shopping centers, shopping streets and bazaars. But the city does also have many interesting sight; especially from the Roman Empire. Most of them are in the old town Kaleici, where you also can see old women preparing the dinner while their men are playing dominoes.

Belek is without doubt the number one golf destination in Turkey. In the area there are eight golf courses, and many more are under construction. If you are going in the high season, it is wise to book as soon as possible, because of the popularity of the area.

Belek is also a great destination even though you not play golf. The nature is fantastic and silence is incredible compared to the lively destinations like Side and Alanya. If you love bird, Belek will also seem like a paradise to you. And you can still find both shopping and water parks.

Kemer might have the most beautiful location in Turkey. Surrounded by the Mediterranean and the Taurus Mountains is this special place. The city does have a unique mix of the real Turkey and a modern holiday village. The city has an elegant marina, beautiful beach promenades and lively pedestrian streets.

For some sightseeing you can visit the ruins of Phaselis; the winter location for Alexander the Great. Another great place (especially for the kids) is the 55,000 m2 Moonlight Park in the middle of Kemer. Here you find a playground, restaurants, bars, discos; and even a dolphinarium

Even though Kusadasi is the typical fishing village which has developed into a holiday destination, it is not the typical holiday village. Here you find some of the best restaurants and more quit nightlife (with only a small bar street) than Side and Alanya.

There is an international feeling in the city because of the many cruise ships; most of them come to see the famous sight Efesos (also called Efesus) near Kusadasi. So if you like smart cafes and international clothing brands, Kusadasi is the city for you.

If you are looking for a romantic holiday destination, Side might be the answer. In the old town you can see many Roman building. Do also walk a little away from the main street and take stroll among the well-preserved wood and stone houses in the quieter streets. Finish the day in the city theater, where concerts and theater has replaced the gladiator fights.

Side does also have a wild nightlife. You can even combine culture with pleasure in one of the most popular bars in the city; placed among the ruins of two 2nd century temples. For sun bathing Side has two beaches; the quit east beach and the livelier (and kid friendly) west beach.
