The Story Of Tunku Abdul Rahman And His Time In The United Kingdom

November 29, 2009 by Joseph Archibald · Leave a Comment

I got on a flight from London Stanstead to Kuala Lumpur International Airport recently, on my way to spending time in Sarawak, Malaysia and I came across what was a very interesting article about the first Prime Minister of Malaysia. The article focuses upon “Tunku” as he was titled in Malaysia, and his time spent in Cambridgeshire, England.

The article author – Mansor Puteh did the interview back in’89, just one year before Tunku Abdul Rahman’s death. He remembers that Tunku would recall the period of time he spent at University in England very fondly, and thus he took it upon himself to come over to England to see for himself what it is (was) really like.

This particular article relates the experience of Mansor and his nephew traveling to England to follow in the footsteps of Tunku. They arrived at Stanstead Airport (the same airport I left from) and proceeded to Cambridge to begin the “journey”. Tunku spent his time at St Catherine’s College, Cambridge so Mansor visited one of his lodgings in Grange Road near to the college.

Apparently however, Tunku was not allowed to remain on campus at St Catherine’s College for a whole term because back in the year’19 when he was there, it was highly unusual for a Malayan to be a student of Cambridge because they “did not look like British students” so it was preferred they were to live off campus.

The university Dean was totally shocked and proclaimed that of course he could live on campus but Tunku himself turned down the opportunity and chose to remain living off campus instead.

Tunku died in December’90 at the grand age of 87. Mansor Puteh is a well known Malaysian author and film maker. He is currently working on a new film called Malysian Snow, which is based in England and focuses on the experiences of some Malaysian students.

9 Hot Tips On Making Disney World More Affordable

November 27, 2009 by Joseph Archibald · Leave a Comment

If you have a plan to visit Disney World and regardless of whether you wish to make this a holiday for you and the kids of a life time or its a regular place to visit, its great when you know how to cut some costs and keep some of that hard earned money in your own pocket. Here are a few tips to help you out.

* Get hold of a Disney Rewards Credit Card. This card offers Disney points for every single purchase you make when using the card. These points can then be redeemed towards your ideal Disney vacation. You can use the points towards Disney merchandise, Disney restaurants, hotels, theme park tickets and more.

* Go off-peak. Try to go to Disney World at off peak times when kids are back at school. This way there are lower crowd levels and lower prices to boot.

* Annual pass. Get your hands on an annual pass if you intend on visiting the theme park more than the one time. It lowers the cost of a variety of rides and entry fees so well worth having.

* Register your birthday on the Disney website. If you register your birthday on the Disney website you are entitled to a free visit to the theme park that you wish, regardless of which state or country you are from. It will be mailed out to you after you register and registration is entirely free.

* Stay in a Disney World Hotel. May seem an expensive option but it saves on traveling time and gas costs. Disney’s own bus service, monorail and boats are all free for guests and those staying in Disneyland hotels are offered free airport pickup and put down and extended theme park visiting hours too.

* Utilize the Disney camp sites. If you can forgo the luxury of hotel accommodation you can save a ton. You can take your RV or you can pitch a tent. Great fun for all the kids!

* Make your food purchases before you enter the theme park. May seem a bit too much effort but when you consider that even snacks and soft drinks when purchased in the theme park will soon add up to a decent sum of money then it does make sense to make a few purchases at a grocery store before you enter the theme park for the day.

* Take advantage of special offers on the Disney website. Its good policy to regularly check the Disney website because there are often very good deals to take advantage of on there. Its a good way to plan your itinerary too.

* If you are a member of various companies you can qualify for discounts. So as an example, if you are with the AAA you are already privy to various discounted prices at Disney World.

The Disney credit card is a great card all round. The Disney rewards card is an ideal compliment to your Disney World trip so check out just how much it can help you enhance your Disney trip even more!

Travel Packages To Disney World: The Cheapest Way To Feel the Magic

November 24, 2009 by Joseph Archibald · Leave a Comment

It is still every parents dream to bring their children to Disney World so that they can experience the magic and beauty of this fun-filled place. American families have always made time to plan trips to Orlando, Florida so that their children can have the greatest time of their lives. Disney World is still an important tourist destination, but all the same, it is quite expensive. For this reason, Disney packages have become very popular because they are the most affordable means of getting your children to see the theme park.

Popular rides at Disneyland can take half a day of queuing to get on and if you only have a day to spend at Disney you most certainly do not want to be spending as much time standing in a line waiting to get on a ride. Is there an answer to this problem?

In actual fact, its been proven that if you choose a certain queue over the other queue for the same ride (meaning either left or right side) you could save a lot of time. Furthermore, there are “secret” entrance ways that will save you a long walk and allow you to bypass much of the crowds.

Okay then, so where do you manage to get this sort of information that allows you to cut down the time wastage? The Disney World Vacation Savings and Travel Guide is a really great source of all things Disneyland, or The Ultimate Disney World Savings Guide by Beth Haworth too is great for insights and “know-hows” when it comes to Disney World.

Its very wise to get at least one guide, and if you are fairly regular to Disney World I would suggest you get more than one. They can save you lots of time and lots of money! But there is another way to reduce the time spent queuing. There is the Fastpass!

The Fastpass is free in that it comes within your initial admission fee but you are only able to utilize it once at a time, and a minimum of 2 hours have to pass since using your last one before you can attain another. So how best to make use of the Fastpass?

Obvious really – its good to find out beforehand which Disney rides and attractions you can use the Fastpass at and which you cannot. Try to get as many Fastpasses in as you can within each day you are at the park. If you use the pass wisely you can really do a lot within a short space of time!

Now you know how to save lots of time with the Disneyland Fastpass why not also check out the Disney credit card. The Disney visa card is a great card all-round so find out just how much it can help you enhance your Disney trip even more!
