As soon as winter holidays begin people start planning up to spend their holidays in an enjoyable way. Often people think of taking up winter sports such as snowboarding and skiing. These sports have healthy rivalry between them but they are both fun filled winter sports and it is for you to select which one would suit you best. Both the sports have similarities and differences.
The main similarity is the area where they are performed; both of these activities are performed at hill sides or snowy mountains. They are very famous sports and many countries with mountain ranges offer these sports to its tourists and travelers in winter season. There are many professionals also available to teach you how to take up this activity and safeguard you from an injury while having fun.
Equipments that are used in these two activities are the major difference between snowboarding and skiing. For skiing each foot is strapped to an individual ski board that is thin and long. When feet of the skier are placed firmly on the ski boards they push themselves forward and they have a pair of ski poles that help them navigate. In snowboarding, there is only one snowboard and it is wide but not as long as ski boards. Both feet are attached side by side to the snowboard with the help of binding.
It is much easier for a skier to release his feet from ski board unlike the snowboarder who find it difficult to release his feet. The placement of feet on boards is the major difference between these two snow activities. People who have been snowboarding might think that it is an easy sport but there are other people who might not agree with them because snowboarding requires balance of body which cannot be maintained that easily.
The types of terrains that these two activities use also differ; since skiers have both feet to glide with and have ski poles to navigate they use bumpy and icy terrain for skiing. Whereas in snowboarding, snowboarders prefer smoother and heavy snow area because of the limitation of their control in this activity.
Snowboarders suffer minor injuries than ski boarders because of the less bumpy terrain they choose. Usually skiers experience knee injuries because when they fall their knees get the weight of their body most. Snowboarders on the other hand suffer wrist injuries because they do not have anything to take support from and during a fall their hands bear the weight of their body. When skiers are immobile they take support from their ski poles but snowboarders have to sit down because they do not have anything to take support from.
Both sports differ in style, culture, equipment but they are equally entertaining and exhilarating. The objective of these sports are the same to provide people with adrenaline rush. There are lots of people who are a keen follower of these winter sports and even after injuries would not give up on them.
