Fabulous Fern Resort All Inclusive

I think I’ve found the perfect lake side vacation for families looking for one of the all inclusive resorts. There are of course all the water activities by the beach, fun filled programs that have so much thought put into them to captivate every age group of children and even adults, depending on what you feel like doing that day. Americans get the best of both worlds, getting a very good exchange on the dollar from U.S. to Canadian. Ontario is as hot as any location in the summer, unless you are heading to northern Ontario, which we are not.

Fern Resort is located in Orillia, Ontario just above Lake Simcoe. From Toronto, youd be taking Hwy 400 to Hwy 11 at Barrie, to Hwy 12 at Orillia, and then to Rama Road and Fern Resort Road. There is a mile and a half of lakefront shoreline. The cottages are in total view of and steps away from the water outside their door or across the lawn from their door, with the exception of a couple cabins.

I’ve counted ten various age and activity classifications of programs for children, teens and adults, and that doesn’t include the additional fitness, dance and art classes. This is one of those vacation spots that is ideal for many families wondering what those different age groups of family members will do during a holiday. Parents don’t have to be exhausted at the end of their own vacation.

A great aspect about this resort is there is an extensive amount of recreational activities people can join in if they want to. If they don’t, thats perfectly fine also. Besides the beach activities, there is an extreme sports challenge course, low ropes challenge course, tenns program, golfing, miniature golf, archery, batting cage, fitness room, rec centre, running track, spa day, yoga classes and more. For adults wanting to relax out of the sun, there is Bertyls’ Lobby Bar to lounge by two fireplaces and televisions.

All the meals, accommodation, activities, programs, entertainment, and most sports and recreational activities are included with the price. There is a professional water ski show, comedians in the evening, mad science programs with highly skilled instructors, wildlife presentations including up-close encounters with species, Indian River Reptile Zoo which is one of the most specialized animal centers in the world and will give you your fill of snakes, lizards, reptiles, turtles, alligators, etc. They come to the resort to enable you to experience their extensive exhibit. Musical entertainment at night, comedians, this place continues with a lot of choose from into the evening as well.

Interested in what you will be eating? Everything of course is prepared for you. At dinner, there are eight selections to choose from plus a childrens buffet. For lunch there are eight choices to choose from or the poolside barbeque available for five days per week. Breakfast can be Continental brougt to your room, or you can go to the dining room for an extensive array of selections to choose from. The childrens buffet is from 5:30 to 7:30 and this allows you to have the kids fed first, and then they can go to the playroom or nursery where they are supervised, allowing you to relax for a meal. There is baby food supplied for those very young children. The site provides meals and menu samples to browse through easily to satisfy your curiosity and need. Modest coverup is mandatory in the dining room, so show some class by following the rules of no bare feet, no swim suits, no hats, no muscle shirts.

Accommodations ” there are 105 rooms and all have fireplaces, most have decks, some are suited to a couple, others are suited to families of various sizes. Checking out the Bayshore cottage style, which is one up from the lowest priced one, there is a five-piece bathroom, a bedroom, and a bedroom-sitting area with another queen size bed/pullout couch, tv/dvd/vcr, small fridge and coffee maker, fireplace, air conditioning, parking at the cottage.

I priced out a Bayshore cottage from July 12 ” 17, 2009. I would pay $2728.00 Canadian for five nights all inclusive for one adult and two teen/preteens. That would include all food, recreation, accommodation, supervised programs for my children, entertainment and lakefront activities, skilled instruction and use of all facilities. Definitely worth checking out and the ratings for this place are very very good.

Jekkyl Island for Sea Turtle Lovers

April 4, 2009 by Ella Jean Beauclaire · 1 Comment

My family and I would go to Jekkyl Island during a period when it was not hot enough for my comfort anyway. This is one place to plan for summer holidays, or at least closer to the summer such as May for turtle watching, or June.

Jekkyl Island was originally an island for wealthy patrons. The residue of their lifestyle is still seen on the island, with Victorian mansions and homes (they call them summer homes and cottages). The Jekkyl Club Hotel is an example of an 1886 bygone era – the Rockefellers and Vanderbilts and Morgans era. The rates are comparable to others, and as far as I’m concerned, better than a lot when you realize this hotel is one of the top 500 resorts in the world.

Jekkyl Island might have been named Sea Turtle Island, due to the female sea turtles arriving from the sea each May to crawl up on shore and lay eggs in nests they dig. This protected species is monitored by the Georgia Sea Turtle Center and guided walks to observe this yearly ritual are available. This is a good time to keep younger or hyper children away from the turtles, as they cannot be disturbed during their period of egg laying.

For those who must have speed besides internet speed, there is the Golden Isle speedway about 25 minutes away in Waynesville. Check out their website for dates of races and prices.

Driftwood Beach has an incredible reputation for shelling, better than the shelling spots in Florida. The dolphins can be seen cajoling in the waters. The Villa By the Sea is located here, with comparable rates. You can’t swim at high tide but there is a playground at the resort, plus a pool. At Driftwood Beach there is also horseback riding provided by Victoria’s Carriages.

Although this is about family beach vacations, if you need or want to divert from the natural beauty to something superficial, for the sake of variations to your day, try the Summer Waves waterpark, with really reasonable rates. The Pirates Passage is supposed to be truly awesome with kids and adults. And if you haven’t seen enough waves, there is a wave pool here with a superficial beach,, for those who have never had the experience. Lots to do.

For bike enthusiasts, try the Mini Bike and Golf Rentals, as there are 20 miles of trail to ride along winding passages. Rates are approximately 11.00 per day.

If you like big meals, try the Low Country Boil Buffet, spread out by SeaJay’s Waterfront Cafe serving up an enormous meal. Adults will pay about 15.00 and children age 10 and under will pay about 7.50.
