August 3, 2009 by Deb Schwabe · 1 Comment

Contrary to the Rolling Stones believing that “Under the Boardwalk” is the place you will find fun. I believe that the upper part of the boardwalk is where you find all the fun and in Ocean City – Maryland, this is definitely the case. The Boardwalk comes alive at night, when the arcades and rides light up and families flock down to see what is happening. It is also a place for daytime fun, and the place there people take their daily exercise and the health-giving sea air at the same time.

In south-west Florida, you will find the city of Naples, which is supposed to be the jewel in the crown of this area. It is an area of unparalleled beauty, an all-year round playground of challenging golf courses, fine dining, sun-drenched beaches, first class shopping and adventure, all rolled into one.

Naples is a mere hop, skip and jump from the “Everglades” an untamed tropical wonderland. Or if it is island seclusion you are seeking, you will find it. This is one of the most famous sand-boxes in the US and it boasts the calmest seas as well as one of the best climates. Many water sports enthusiasts, beach lovers and enthusiastic vacationers love this city for its many recreational facilities.

Sunsets, shopping and sand, what more could the vacationer ask for? Adventure of course and this can be found in Everglades wilderness adventures, where visitors are able to enjoy the thrill of meeting animals such as bison, panther, birds and alligators in the wild. Bird watching is the favorite pastime of many people, and in fact most people fancy themselves as amateur birdwatchers.

The Everglades are made up of more than 10,000 islands, all of them uninhabited, as well as varied and unique ecosystems, so there is plenty to do, see and learn. Exploring these by kayak or canoe as a means of transport places the adventurer on and eye to eye level with the beauty of this tropical paradise. As they slide through mangrove tunnels and float over fields of saw grass. This kind of adventure makes meaningful memories and if you are lucky you may even come across a school of dolphins.

If the Everglades are just a little too much adventure for you, you could also spend a day with animals in a more controlled environment, the Naples Zoo. This is a nationally accredited zoo situated in the exquisite botanical gardens known as the Caribbean Gardens. So it is two sight-seeing facilities in one. Cruise past monkeys on the islands and make a point of visiting the panther glade, African oasis and tiger forest.

Naples has a host of water-spots available, not least of which is the fishing. If you are an enthusiastic angler, you are able to come into contact with both inland and off-shore fishing, and there are a wide variety game fish to catch.

One of the most special experiences you could possibly have in Naples is paying a visit to the gentle manatee. Make sure you find yourself a guide who knows where to find these sweet aquatic mammals and most guides don’t expect you to pay for your trip if you don’t see one.
