Planning a Seattle Trip? New things to do in Seattle.

July 26, 2009 by Dan Writer · Leave a Comment

Taking one of the Seattle limousine tours of the wineries across the region of Washington is starting to become an increasingly popular tourist activity. The weather in Washington is very well suited to growing high quality grapes. Cooler overnight temperatures give the grapes high acidity, making the juice rich, flavorful and well balanced. It’s no wonder the Washington area is now the second largest producer of wine in the United States of America. Washington wines are showing up more often in the press due to their increasingly impressive volume of awards.

No getaway to Seattle is completely satisfying without seeing the very popular Space Needle building. The Space Needle was built in the 1960’s for the Worlds Fair. It is more than 500 feet tall. There is a lookout deck near the top of the building where you can get a new view on Seattle. You will be very happy that you made a visit here part of your trip.

The local growers around Seattle invite you to come see the Pike Place farmer’s market. You will see a wonderful selection of local foods there as well as local artists. Spend a few hours walking around and browsing among some of these farmers and stand owners. You get a real taste for the area here.

One of the more interesting tourist attractions in the Seattle area is the Native American Tillicum Village. It is a place here history comes alive. You will learn all kinds of detailed information regarding the early settlers of this part of the US. They perform symbolic dances that have been passed down through generations of Native Americans. It is a very unique place.

While in Seattle you should try to find out what it is like to ride on a ferry. From the water, you can see awesome views of the Cascade and Olympic mountains. You will get a great wide angle view of the famous Seattle skyline. It should be very impressive after sundown. Ferries are available for sightseeing tourists.

Seattle also contains a wonderful public zoo. You can find all different types of animals from the domestic farm animals to the elephants. If you’re there at the right time, you can pay to feed the giraffes. They also have exhibits for other interesting things like an African bead bracelet making event and the Nature Exchange trading event. While you’re there, don’t miss the elephants, the penguins or the birds of prey exhibit.

If you plan your visit far enough ahead of time, you may be able to get tickets to one of Seattle’s major sports team games. The Seattle Seahawks put on a great show in their relatively modern Qwest Field stadium. You can visit the Key Arena in the Seattle Center to watch the Seattle Storm WNBA basketball team or the Seattle Sonics NBA team. Safeco field is home to the Seattle Mariners Major League Baseball team.

Seattle and Washington State are famous for their many popular microbreweries. In downtown Seattle you’ll find the Pyramid Brewery Alehouse as well as the Pike Pub and Brewery. You could also go on a tour and taste the brew at Redhook Ale Brewery in Woodinville, Rock Bottom Brewery at Rainier Square and the Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant in Pacific Place. Try to find a better way to spend a rainy weekend in Seattle.

New York Sports Fans Are Psychotic

July 19, 2009 by Dan Writer · Leave a Comment

You would have a tough time finding fans that are more into their sports than New York hockey fans. These fans are widely known as being the toughest to please. They aren’t content unless their favorite New York team is playing for the championship every single year. Ask somebody like one of the famous professional athletes who has left about it. These fans are really ruthless.

Under good leadership the New York Giants have had a nice run in the playoffs in recent years. The fans have a lot to cheer about. The questions surrounding Eli Manning have been answered. I just can’t see what the fuss is about here. They’ve got a well coached team that always ends up in the running come playoff time.

Then New York fans have the failing New York Jets. Jets fans have every right to be angry at this football organization. The team let their best performing players go to other teams and then bring in a bunch of under performers. They bring coaching talent in but don’t keep them around long enough to develop anything meaningful. I guess the mindset around ownership doesn’t put much weight behind the word perseverance. If they did, you would see more teams building dynasties.

Love them or hate them, the New York Yankees are the pride of many New Yorkers. Yankee team management is a subject of much controversy. With that huge budget being poured out to acquire baseballs best hitters it is easy to see why Yankee fans get fanatical after a poor season. There are increased expectations created when that kind of money is spent.

Then there is the other New York professional baseball team, the New York Mets. Mets fans are more pure fans of the sport of baseball. The New York Mets are more consistent than their Yankee counterparts. The fans know what to expect. They hope for a pennant but don’t expect one every single season. Even though fans are excitable there is far less complaining involved when compared to the Yankees.

The Rangers and the Islanders represent New York in the NHL. For a New York sports team, neither one of those hockey clubs are consistently great. They have their good and bad years just like any other team in hockey. If NHL hockey was as important here as it is in Canada, I’m certain you would see some really large budgets come out of those two teams.

The Knicks give the New York fans enough to be happy about just about every year. Like every other fan, they unrealistically want the Knicks were playing for the NBA title every year. Most years they are above average compared to other NBA cities. I guess a explanation for that is New York City’s ability to attract people to move there. People, especially wealthy people, love to live in or near New York. There are so many positive benefits to living here. One of those benefits is having excellent sports teams to cheer for in every major national sport.
