For many renters of apartments in Rio de Janeiro rodents are the other white meat

First of all, I must admit, the place that I was residing can’t actually be identified as an apartment. I’m among those kinds of folks that needs to go so far off the beaten path that I can’t find it again. Hotels and Apartments? Not truly my bag. So not surprisingly, when anyone like me goes to travel to Rio de Janeiro I’m more likely to face some particular complications. Especially if you go to look at the kind of rentals I investigated. If you’re taking unconventional actions, you are more likely to have some unconventional complications, as I discovered.

I’d actually found some flats located in one of the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. This specific favela was located in Copacabana, however it was also not far from Ipanema. While lots of people would probably hunt for hotels or apartments, I actually stumbled across this unique item of real estate to be embedded in the culture. Funk parties, loud music, samba, low budget fireworks at all times of the day and night. If this is the holiday you seek out, then a favela is for you. Otherwise, chances are you’ll contemplate a different strategy for your vacation.

Once I moved into my new accommodations, it wasn’t long before I found I had an unanticipated visitor. Or perhaps you would refer to him as an invader. Though it might be contended as to who was the actual invader. I believe to this rodent, I was in fact encroaching on his territory. Most likely he was there long before I showed up. Also, this isn’t really something that occurred to me while I had been seeking flats and rentals in the local slums of Rio de Janeiro. But what can you do?

One may possibly ask, what’s it like living with a rat? Well, most of us have had that flatmate who is “that guy.” You recognize the type. The ones who make noise when you’re attempting to sleep. They devour your food and don’t tidy up their messes. Though I must acknowledge, in comparison with other roommates in other apartments I’ve stayed in, this rodent was quite polite. But then again, the bar has been set low, very low.

Quite possibly next time I’ll accept the approach of staying in hotels. Though for the money, there’s no way I’d have gotten anyplace as close to Copacabana or Ipanema beach had I not relocated into some accommodations that might consent to my furry four legged friend with a tail.
