Best Places to Visit in Las Vegas
May 16, 2009 by A Nutt · Leave a Comment
When traveling to Las Vegas, even the most veteran travelers will have to admit that it is practically impossible to see and do everything the city has to offer. It would take months, if not years, to experience all that is Las Vegas, so savvy travelers will take the time to do a little homework beforehand and scope out the best places to visit in Las Vegas. As you plan your next Vegas trip, make sure your “things to see” list includes these locations:
Bellagio
The Bellagio Hotel is one of the places must be included in your Las Vegas vacation package. It is one of only two certified five diamond hotels in the city, and everything inside the towering structure is both grandiose and spectacular. A massive ceiling skylight lets natural light into the entry way, and fountains, glass sculptures, and fine art are found around every corner.
Attractions within Bellagio include the “O” by Cirque du Soleil, a mesmerizing acrobatics performance, the Bellagio Conservatory, a beautiful garden for those who want to escape the city scene for a moment, and a luxury shopping center. The Bellagio Fountains, which are just outside of the building, are one of the most spectacular nighttime attractions in the entire city. Keep in mind that you must be 18 to enter this prestigious hotel, so you cannot visit with kids in tow.
Mirage Hotel
The Mirage Hotel is one of the landmarks of Las Vegas. Outside of the hotel you can watch the famous volcano erupt. This volcano is made of lights, fire and fountains and erupts every hour between dusk and midnight.
Inside Mirage, visitors can experience a variety of natural wonders. The wall behind the front desk is not a wall at all, but actually a live coral reef aquarium. Here guests can watch sharks, stingrays, and beautiful tropical fish swim behind lighted glass. The aquarium houses over 1,000 live animals.
A highlight of a trip to Mirage is a visit to Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat. Here guests can come face to face with exotic animals, including white lions, panthers, white tigers, and leopards. Of course, bottlenose dolphins are also found there, and each habitat is housed in a lush, garden atmosphere.
Circus Circus
If you are visiting Vegas with kids, you must visit Circus Circus. This resort features a live circus and carnival midway that is open all day. Guests can watch free performances from acrobats in the circus tent and play for prizes at the games that surround the center ring. A highlight of a trip to Circus Circus is the Adventuredome, a large indoor amusement park complete with water rides, roller coasters, and traditional amusement park rides. This is a great place for the kids to burn off some energy, and admission is free. You simply pay for the rides you wish to experience.
These are just three of the many attractions you must visit while you are in Las Vegas. They did not include such icons as Excalibur, Paris Las Vegas, and the Fremont Street Experience in Downtown Vegas. The attractions in Sin City are simply too many to list, so do your homework before you leave to ensure that you see everything you wish to on your next Las Vegas vacation.
Why You Need Ski Travel Insurance
May 15, 2009 by A Nutt · Leave a Comment
Skiing is a sport that has become extremely popular throughout the world. Every year, millions of people take to the slopes for a fun and relaxing holiday. Many people who ski do not think about the costs they may incur if they were to have an accident. There are many things that can happen while skiing. For instance, you could suffer an injury, have your equipment stolen, or a storm may force you to cancel your vacation.
Companies are now offering ski insurance as part of a travel insurance policy. The following is a list of reasons why you should purchase ski CAA insurance before going on your next vacation:
Trip Disruption: If you are stuck for a few days due to a storm and cannot participate in ski activities, you will be covered for phone calls, lodging, and meals. Most CAA travel insurance will reimburse your costs if you are unable to ski for two or more days due to bad weather. They will cover the cost of lift passes, ski school fees, and any other expenses you incur.
Trip Cancellation: You never know when nature is going to intervene and force you to cancel your trip. When there is a snow or ice storm, usually roads, highways, and even airports are closed. If you have to cancel the entire trip due to a storm or other unexpected event such as an illness or death in the family, ski travel insurance will cover your cancellation costs.
Delayed Luggage: When traveling by plane many people have gone through the frustration of having their luggage delayed. Ski insurance will cover the costs of basic necessities and even the cost of renting gear while you wait for your own gear to arrive. You will not miss a minute on the slopes
Injury: Skiing is an exciting activity. When you are soaring down the slopes, you run the risk of being injured. If you are in another country, medical bills can be very expensive. Ski travel insurance will cover medicals incurred as the result of an injury. It will be one less problem you have to worry about if you suffer an injury. Ski insurance also protects against others. You never know when a collision with another skier may occur. Legal and court costs can be very expensive. Having personal liability insurance will cover you in the event someone sues and you have to go to court.
Equipment Loss: Ski equipment can be very expensive. Not being able to use your ski equipment can be very frustrating. This could be the result of misplacing your equipment, theft, and damage. Ski insurance will cover any loss or damage to your equipment. Before you buy your policy, make sure your provider explains the term ‘unattended goods. You may not be covered if you step away from your equipment for a moment, or if you leave equipment outside, and it is stolen.
Ski Rescue: Every year it is common to hear about skiers who were lost on the slopes and needed to be rescued. This could be the result of a storm, damaged equipment, or skiing away from the slope. Rescue efforts can be very expensive, especially if a helicopter is needed. Ski insurance will cover you if you have to be rescued.
When choosing the appropriate ski insurance, you should not make a decision based on price only. You should make sure you obtain a comprehensive policy that will meet all of your needs. Read the policy to understand what you are covered for because if you make a claim and you are not able to be reimbursed, then you have wasted your money. You should also shop around for the best coverage and the best price. It is important to note that if you are in an accident where alcohol and drugs are involved, you will not be covered if you are the one under the influence.
Skiing is an activity that millions of people look forward to each season. Having the appropriate insurance will allow you to have a stress free and fun vacation.
The History of Toronto Island
April 9, 2009 by A Nutt · Leave a Comment
Toronto Island is a great spot to stop as part of a Toronto vacation; the entire harbor and waterfront are loaded with fun and fulfilling things to take part in. The city of Toronto is jam packed with amazing attractions including the Toronto Zoo, the CN Tower, the Ontario Science Centre, etc., etc. If you’ve never had the pleasure of a Toronto vacation, the trip is certainly worth it just to explore the history of Toronto Island.
Starting at the ‘beginning’ One of the most interesting bits of history in relation to Toronto Island is also, coincidently, one of the oldest. The Gibraltar Point Lighthouse, built around 1805, is the longest free standing structure of any kind on the island. It’s no longer used for its intended purpose, but it did serve to provide guidance for vessels for more than one hundred and fifty years. The interesting story here doesn’t have anything to do with providing light – it has to do with ghosts.
In 1815, the lighthouse keeper was found dead of a presumed murder and it’s been since rumored that the Gibraltar Point Lighthouse remains his haunting grounds.
Sports History Hanlan’s Point Stadium was built on Toronto Island in 1897 to be the home for the Toronto Maple Leaf professional baseball team. The stadium itself was rebuilt on a few occasions over the years and no longer stands today, but in 1914 it was the sight of what would have been one of baseballs most valuable and sought after artifacts. Before all of the hype and hoopla, before the famous nicknames and before he became known as the greatest player to ever take the field, Babe Ruth hit his first professional home run out of Hanlan’s Point Stadium and into the Harbor. Though the artifact was never recovered (presumably), a local bar displays ‘the ball’ for fans to take a gander at while they enjoy a drink.
The true intention of the original colonization of the island was for a ‘summer getaway’ for Toronto residents. Large Victorian style vacation homes were built on the island, and then an elaborate amusement park was erected for entertainment, followed by the sport’s stadium, an airport and the Royal Yacht Club.
The Island today has a more permanent residential section that includes a church and two public schools, but the overall feel of the island remains predominantly as a getaway from the everyday. In 1967 a turn of the century themed amusement park for children was built, recreational boating continues to be extremely popular among residents and visitors to the island who can choose between several boat and yacht clubs. There are also a number of beaches for residents and tourists to swim, play and relax – and for the more daring among the vacationing crowd, there are clothing optional beaches available as well.
Another interesting note about the small group of islands around Toronto Harbor is that collectively they make up the biggest ‘car free’ community throughout North America. All of the roadways are paved, but motor vehicle use is restricted to only service vehicles – if you are on one of the islands and in need of some form of transportation other than your feet there are several locations throughout the island where bicycles, Toronto dinner cruises and other modalities of self propelled transportation can be rented.
If you’re planning a vacation to Toronto, your trip could easily be overfilled by all of the amazing attractions on the mainland, but you’d really be selling yourself short if you didn’t stop by and drink in some of the incredible history that Toronto Island has to offer.
Planning your Wedding on a Boat, Pros and Cons
April 9, 2009 by A Nutt · Leave a Comment
Your wedding day should be one of the most special and most memorable days of your life, so if you feel that you need to step outside of tradition in order to make the experience all that it can possibly be – then you should go for it, but be prepared for the possibility of facing some adversity if you opt to go for something that isn’t wholly traditional.
One particular wedding location that’s increasing in popularity is aboard a boat. Having your wedding aboard a boat can be an incredible experience, the beauty of the open water coupled with gourmet food and entertainment out in the sun with a cool sea breeze is an occasion that neither you nor your guests will ever forget.
Pros of having your wedding aboard a luxury cruise ship. By having your wedding on a ship, you can combine your wedding and honeymoon allowing you to immediately begin the vacation celebration as soon as the wedding is through. You’ll eliminate the need for dual planning – once the initial decision is made and the guest list is submitted, the crew aboard the cruise ship will take care of everything else
What comes as a surprise to most people is that having your wedding in this fashion can actually save you some money. By booking the wedding and honeymoon together you’ll get a better deal than you would have by booking them separately and since your wedding will be aboard a dinner cruises harbour, it’s likely that your guest list will be substantially shorter.
As far as planning and preparation go, you’ll have far less to do with planning your wedding aboard a boat which can eliminate the majority of stress and many of the headaches that are commonly associated with the usually monumental task of the planning.
The cons associated with having a wedding aboard a boat. Though the pros of having a boat-bound wedding are undeniably good, the potential cons can far outweigh them. You have to be prepared for whatever the open sea might throw at you, be it rain, sleet or violent storms – the sea is unpredictable and just like planning any type of party, you have to be willing to play whatever hand the weather deals you.
Sea sickness is another big potential downside to having a wedding aboard a boat. Even though the conditions of the water may be reasonably calm some or several of your guests or wedding party may succumb to the woes of sea sickness at some point during the venture – and that point may or may not occur directly in the middle of your ceremony.
If the water is rough for the entire time that you are on it sea sickness and misery could abound through your entire voyage, which will still certainly make your wedding celebration memorable, but probably not in the way you would have liked.
Planning a wedding in any location that can have unpredictable circumstances is always a gamble; it’s up to you and your mate to decide how much you’re willing to gamble on the day of your celebration. If it’s of the utmost importance to the two of you to hold your day outside on the open water, then by all means take the risk and hope for the best, but if the worst case scenario is too much for you to bare dealing with on what is supposed to be the most wonderful day of your life, you may want to have second thoughts about planning your wedding on a boat.
Keep in mind, once you get out there, there will be no turning back – you can’t magically move the boat inside if the weather turns sour, that should be your biggest concern when considering an unconventional location for a wedding.
