Parking at Laguardia Airport can be intimidating for people who aren’t used to driving in New York City, as there’s a lot of traffic in the area and other drivers can be impatient.

The truth is that Laguardia Airport New York offers many different parking choices, including hourly lots, short term parking and long term parking. Being aware of them before you go can make your time parking at the airport easier.

If you have a friend or relative drop you off, there’s metered parking. Laguardia Airport has this at its Marine Air Terminal, and there’s a two hour limit on it. This will allow your friend or relative to help you take your luggage into the airport or bring it back to the car.

Short-term parking at the Airport is done in one of seven parking lots or garages, each which comes equipped with parking for people with disabilities. Every terminal at Laguardia Airport New York has a short-term lot or garage near it, so you won’t have to travel far this way. Just be warned that if you leave your car there longer than 24 hours they start charging 30 dollars a day for it, which is significantly more expensive than the long-term parking. The airport does this to encourage efficient traffic patterns.

The long term lot at Laguardia Airport New York is close to the Central Terminal Building and has shuttles to and from the other terminals to make it a location for convenient parking. The airport charges $30 for the first day, which is the same as the short term parking, but only $5 per each successive 8 hours. This is the cheapest option if your car is going to be there overnight.

Disabled people have special rates for parking at the airport. In fact, the handicapped rates at the Airport are much less than the normal rates so if you’re traveling with someone with a handicapped tag you can expect to pay far less than the above-referenced prices.

Parking at Laguardia Airport can be paid for with cash, check, or credit card, including American Express, Mastercard, Visa, Diners Club, Carte Blanche and Discover. The airport also accepts EZPass, which is a quick and convenient way to pay for parking.

One final choice is to leave your car at a lot which is offsite from the Airport. There are many such options, including Central Parking and Airpark. They charge less than the official Laguardia parking and they’ll pick you up and drive you back from the terminal as needed, so it’s a decent way to save money on parking.

All of these options for parking at the airport show that no one should be intimidated by the idea of parking there; Laguardia Airport New York is actually a parking-friendly place that suits the needs of many different types of people and the conditions of many different types of trips.
